SOP: Morning Capture Ritual
Purpose
Start each day with a clean inbox and clear priorities. This is the “C” (Capture) step of CODEX applied to daily operations.
When to Use
- Every morning, first 10 minutes of the day
- After returning from vacation or time away
Prerequisites
- Phone or voice input device
- Access to your codex (Obsidian or any markdown editor)
- Coffee (optional but recommended)
Steps
- Voice dump (2 min) — Speak everything on your mind into a voice memo or transcription app. Don’t filter. Just dump.
- Inbox sweep (3 min) — Check messages, email, notifications. Anything that needs action → capture into
06 Inbox (Queue)/ - Yesterday review (2 min) — Read yesterday’s daily log. Move any unfinished items to today.
- Set top 3 (3 min) — Pick the 3 most important things for today. Write them in your daily log.
Expected Outcome
- Zero items floating in your head
- Today’s daily log created with top 3 priorities
- Inbox items captured (not processed — that’s the “Organize” step)
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Solution |
|---|---|
| No time for full ritual | Do just the “Set top 3” step — 1 minute minimum |
| Inbox overflow | Don’t process, just capture. Organize during a dedicated block later |
| Voice transcription bad | Use bullet points in a quick text note instead |
